Texas Recycles Day
A Big Success In Bryan/College Station
Texas Recycles Day November 15th
It all comes back to you!
This year's Texas Recycles Day campaign went a little differently than usual.
We partnered with Twin City Mission to help benefit their annual coat and blanket drive. A contest was formed in both Bryan ISD and College Station ISD schools to see who could collect the most coats and blankets; recycling for the purpose of reuse.
A big thanks goes out to the following schools who collected these items:
Milam Elem., Stepen F. Austin Middle School, Rock Prairie Elem., Johnson Elem., Neal Elem., College Station Middle School, & Oakwood Intermediate! Way to go guys! Together, almost 2,000 items were collected and delivered to Twin City Mission for their Coat and Blanket distribution on
November 16, 2007.
We even had the Brazos Valley Bombers bring Kaboom out to visit, along with Randy the Recycling Raccoon from College Station.
Both were a big hit with the kids and parents in line!
Our top four winning classrooms were as follows:
Johnson Elementary - Anna Neff's 2nd Grade Class
Neal Elementary - Carmalita Brown's 3rd Grade Class
College Station Middle School - Organized by Kelli Burns
Oakwood Intermediate - Cindy Balmain & Megan Stewart's 5th Graders
Each classroom was awarded with a class set of backpacks filled with goodies and a pizza party, while the winning classroom's teachers were awarded with a $50.00 mini teacher grant, and the school was given a mini grant as well. All winning schools were also given blue clear stream recycling bins to help with their campus recycling programs.
Of course all of our great prizes would not have been possible without the generosity of the following organizations:
Brazos Valley Bombers
McDonald's on Villa Maria
City of College Station Recycling
Brazos Valley Council of Governments
Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency
Bryan Environmental Services
The second part of our TRD contest was an art contest at Fannin Elementary. Students were given the opportunity to design the logo for TCM's next year's logo for the 2008 Coat and Blanket Drive. See the First, Second, & Third Place winners below!
All of the children and teachers who participated in the 2007 Texas Recycles Day Contest really did an outstanding job and
showed this community just how much they care about it. We're already looking forward to next year's TRD Contest! Stay tuned!
